Call for papers :.
Dear ME/BME Grad Students and Friends:
The 2005 ME/BME Graduate Student Symposium will be held on Saturday, October 29th. It is a day long event featuring poster and oral presentations by graduate students attended by faculty, staff, students, and alumni of the College of Engineering and the entire university community.
Last year we had 220 attendees along with over $4000 in cash prizes (!) and presentations from industry. This is an excellent opportunity to prepare for a conference, talk with our industry sponsors (Schlumberger and Lawrence Livermore National Labs) about jobs, and network with other researchers. You can also just hang-out and see all of the interesting things that people are working on.
At this time, we are making a call for short abstracts (50-100 words). Anyone interested can participate, there is no selection process. The short abstract should briefly describe in a paragraph or two what you would like to present. The DEADLINE for submission is AUGUST 22, 2005. A template for short abstracts is available in the downloads section.
Please e-mail the short abstract as an attachment, as well as your intention to give a talk and/or poster**, to the session chair for your research area. The session chairs are:
- Bio-Engineering and Bio-Sciences - Jon Song (songjon@umich.edu)
- Design and Manufacturing - Karim Hamza (khamza@umich.edu)
- Dynamics, Systems, and Controls - Bhumika Lathia (bhumika@umich.edu)
- Fluid Mechanics and Thermal Sciences - Xiulin Ruan (xruan@umich.edu)
- Solid Mechanics - Linda Chow (lindchow@umich.edu)
- Materials Science - Darius Dixon (darius@umich.edu)
The session chair will e-mail further instructions upon receipt of your abstract. Please do not hesitate to contact any of the session chairs or myself (Jon Kadish, jkadish@umich.edu) with comments, questions, or suggestions. Feel free to forward this announcement to any interested persons.
**We have a specific poster template that is also available at the website above. However, we will take care of printing and mounting your poster free of charge when it is submitted; so don't get too fired-up of that you can't recycle old conference posters.
