Student Paper Competition
Sponsor: US Office of Naval Research
The
Society of Engineering Science is pleased to announce that a student paper
competition will be held at the 40th Annual Meeting at the University of
Michigan. The papers presented at this special session will be judged for their
content, presentation format and style by a panel of engineering scientists.
The presentations are each 25 minutes long, including the question and answer
period. The three best papers will be awarded certificates and the following
prizes: $300.00 for first prize, $200.00 for second prize, and $100.00 for
third prize. The prizes and certificates will be awarded at the banquet on
Tuesday evening of the meeting.
To
participate in this competition, a student author must:
1. be currently
enrolled as a student with at least half-time status. A valid
student
identification must be presented to the session chairperson.
Note that the
student does not need to be a member of SES.
2. be listed as the
first author on the submitted abstract. The role (eg., Faculty
Advisor, Graduate Student) of all other authors must be indicated in
the author affiliation list.
3. present the paper
at the meeting. It is required that participants pay for
registration.
To
submit abstracts to this competition, student authors must:
1. Submit their
abstract via the link to
Abstract Submission
.
2. Follow the
directions on the abstract submission page for uploading the
abstract. In
the uploading process, select "Student Paper Competition" as the
symposium for which the abstract will be submitted.
3. Include the role
of each co-author of your paper in the affiliation fields of the
entry form for
the abstract.
Partial
reimbursement for the expenses of travel to this meeting is available, but only
to the student authors who actually present papers in the Student Paper
Competition. Because of limited support for travel, the first 10-12 students whose abstracts are accepted will
be candidates to receive support. All foreign students presenting papers in the
competition must show their ORIGINAL visa at the registration desk of the
meeting in order for the University of Michigan to process any transfer of
funds.
Students
will not receive payment until shortly AFTER the meeting.
Additional
questions about the Student Paper Competition or travel reimbursement procedure
should be directed to the chairman of the competition, Prof. Alan Wineman.
