This research deals with the optimization of diesel HEV's from a systems engineering perspective. Simulations developed at the University of Michigan and the National Renewable Energy Laboratory have allowed researchers to study the tradeoffs associated with HEV component sizing as well as driving cycle sensitivities on vehicle performance criteria. The models of the various subsystems used in these simulations are continuously being verified against experimental data in order to ensure their validity.
