Study Guide

Okay, we all know that our study techniques stink! Well, here are a few simple things that you can do to help yourself...

Instant Study Skills

  1. Sit close to your instructor.
This helps because you can actually hear the professor, and you are less likely to work on the crossword puzzle. Seriously, it does help!

  2. Ask Questions.
This is the easiest way to clarify something that you do not understand! Plus, you can be sure that someone else in the class has the same question. Your questions will make the professor aware that a topic needs to be covered in a little more depth.

  3. Review class notes.
Spending 5-10 minutes reviewing your notes after class will help you absorb what you heard/wrote, and will help you identify the areas that you need to work on.

  4. Find a "Study" place.
Pick a place where you plan to do the majority of your studying. If you always study in the same place, then it will become natural and easy to study when you are there.

  5. If you find yourself Day-Dreaming....
Get up and face away from your book. This will help you clear your head and focus better when you start again.

Test-Taking Tips

If you are having trouble with a question SKIP IT , and come back to it later. Answer the ones you understand so that you know you can answer as many as possible in the time allotted.

  1. Sometimes a question is poorly worded. Ask the instructor for clarification before you invest precious test-taking time.

  2. Read directions carefully and underline key words before starting to answer a question. It is amazing how many points are lost when a student correctly answers the wrong question!

  3. Use leftover time to proofread your answers. Yeah, we are all sick of looking at the test once we have finished, but 80% of the time you will find a mistake in your work!
