Wait-listing and How it Works
Wait listing and electronic overrides are handled differently from department to department and from college to college. The rule of thumb is to show up to the class on the first day. Sometimes the instructor will announce in class that everyone will be let into the class. However, in Mechanical Engineering such electronic overrides (EO's) are handled predominantly by staff in the ASO. Throughout the registration period and usually up to the first day of classes, staff will issue EO's and the student will receive an electronically generated email with the details on how to register for the course. Most EO's have expiration dates so it is imperative that you check your email often and act promptly once the override is available.
Remember that while the first people on the wait list are generally the first to get in, this is not always true. If the class is required for graduation, priority will be given to those for whom the class is essential. So if you MUST have a class to graduate on time, don't stress. Go talk to Sue Gow (Undergraduate Student Advisor in 2206 GGB), she will help you evaluate your options.
