FINANCIAL SUPPORT IS AVAILABLE
for eligible students in a number of ways:
Fellowships. The Department offers this aid to assist students in meeting
tuition and living expenses.
Research Opportunities. Research Assistantships are available to graduate
students through sponsored research projects. Incoming graduate students should
contact faculty directly to inquire. Research assistants may also earn graduate
credits for their work by enrolling in ME 590, 595, 695, 990, or 995.
Teaching Assistantships. The Department awards a number of teaching
assistantships (TAs) in laboratory and undergraduate courses to well-qualified
graduate students. Incoming students are automatically considered with their
completed application and required documents. Foreign students must pass the
English Language Institute test for non-native English-speaking students before
a TA is granted. |

Research and teaching assistants with a 25% or greater employment fraction are
eligible to participate in the University's group health and life insurance
programs.
For financial aid consideration, completed
application and all required documents must be received by Rackham Graduate
School and the Department by January 22. Applications received after that date
will be considered; however, chances of receiving aid are reduced. The majority
of financial aid decisions are made on or before April 15. The Department
supports the policy of the Council of Graduate Schools, which allows prospective
students until April 15, to respond to financial aid offers.
Loan funds are administered by the Office of Student
