Admissions
At the
Department of Mechanical Engineering and
Applied Mechanics, we are assembling some of the finest young graduate talent in
the country. Each year, we admit to our program a diverse group of extremely
high caliber students who have a strong engineering or physical science
background and are interested in a multidisciplinary approach to their
coursework and research.
MEAM grants admission to students who have a superior
record of achievement in their previous studies and show a strong potential for
continued success at the advanced level. Applicants to our master's programs
usually hold a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering with a high grade
point average in their undergraduate studies. We also require strong Graduate
Record Examination (GRE) scores.
In addition, we encourage applications to our
master's program from students whose undergraduate education was in a related
scientific subject, such as other engineering disciplines, mathematics, or
physics. We also encourage applications from industry engineers seeking further
educational training.
Applicants to our doctoral program typically hold a
relevant master's degree with a high grade point average plus strong GRE scores.
Outstanding students with only an undergraduate degree are also considered for
direct admission to the doctoral program.
While your academic grades and GRE scores are very
important when being considered for admission to both our master's and
doctoral programs, we also take into account other aspects of your background,
including your experience in research, engineering employment, and
undergraduate activities.
We require three letters of recommendations for both
master's and doctoral applicants. (At least one letter must be from an academic
institution.) We also require the GRE General Test.
GRE testing information may be obtained from:
