New Faculty

Gillespie Welcome to R. Brent Gillespie, who joins the MEAM faculty, effective September 1999, as an assistant professor. He received his MS in 1992 and PhD in 1996, both in Mechanical Engineering from Stanford University. He recently completed an NSF CISE postdoctoral fellowship in the Laboratory for Intelligent Mechanical Systems at Northwestern University. Gillespie's research focuses on the design and analysis of robotic devices for human-computer interaction. One goal is to give humans access to the computer's world by rendering virtual objects to the sense of touch. Another interest is creating robots that can perform tasks in collaboration with humans. Overall, his work contributes to the fields of multibody dynamics, nonlinear controls, robotics, and the emerging fields of haptic interface and cobotics.
