Congratulations are due to Dr. Marshall G. Jones (BS ME '65), who recently received the prestigious Coolidge Award from the General Electric Global Research Center. It's the Center's highest honor, and, much like a sabbatical, grants recipients a six-month leave to pursue individual research or projects.
In his 28 years with General Electric, Dr. Jones has led a number of groundbreaking enterprises involving laser technology. Among his recent projects have been the development of a laser fiber-optic based process to repair underwater nuclear reactor structures and a innovative process for joining super alloys. Jones currently holds 43 patents and has authored or co-authored 35 publications.
Beyond his professional achievements, Jones has maintained a firm commitment to education. Not only is he a member of the ME External Advisory Board, he's also been an adjunct professor at Schenectady County Community College for over 25 years.
Inventor, educator, innovator: three words that only begin to describe the accomplishments of Dr. Marshall G. Jones.
