Two U-M Alumni Accounts Available
MEAM alumni interested in U-M computing
services may want to investigate options available through the U-M's
Computer Aided
Engineering Network (CAEN) and U-M Online.
CAEN offers alumni accounts on a fee-for-service basis for CoE
alumni. A paid
alumni account offers login privileges to a Sun workstation, 20 MB of
online AFS
file storage space, which can accommodate your World Wide Web (WWW) home
page; and full,
unlimited Internet access, including e-mail, Usenet news, browser software
for "surfing
the Web," and online help.
Cost for an alumni account is $18 per month for unlimited access, with a
minimum of
four months required. For more information, please call CAEN at (734)
763-3266, send e-mail
to
caen-alumni@engin.umich.edu, or visit the CAEN Web page at
www.engin.umich.edu/caen/.
U-M Online, a subscription service offered through the U-M
Information Technology
Division (ITD), has two packages for U-M alumni and their spouses. The
Maize Package
($13.60/month) is available to alumni in Michigan, New York City, and
Washington, D.C.,
and includes a base of 20 hours on-line each month through a MichNet NAS
modem connection
with additional hours billed at low rates. The Blue Package ($8.10/month)
includes no dial-in
service in the base price but alumni can use the national dial-in service
offered by the U-M.
Dial-in charges will be billed as an additional charge based on actual
usage. Both packages
offer a variety of software, e-mail, Netscape browser for WWW access, 5 MB
of online AFS file
storage space, which can serve your home page; online help; online
conferences; and special
Web content not available to the general public.
