John H. DeYoung (BSE ME '36) retired from DuPont in 1974, after 38 years. He and his wife, Agnes (also
known as Dolly), have taken 75 cruises—27 with U-M alumni. He enjoyed his 60th class reunion in 1996.

Theodore E. Williams (BSE ME '42) has retired as chief executive office of Bell Industries in El Segundo, CA, but
remains chairman of the board. Bell Industries employs 2,000 people and is listed on the New York Stock
Exchange.
50s
G. Ronald Dalton (BSE ME '54, PhD '60) is moving from
full-time teaching and research in Nuclear and Radiological Engineering at the University
of Florida to half-time over the next five years, to spend more time with his first grandchild, Noah Kai.
60s
Robert T. Balmer (BSE ME '61, MSE '63, BSE M '64) has accepted the position of Dean of Engineering at
Union College
in Schenectady, New York. He had served as a full professor and associate dean for Academic Programs and
Research at the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee.
John (Jay) J. Wetzel II (BSE ME '63), vice president and general manager of General Motors Technical Centers,
recently
received the Distinguished Service Citation by the Automotive Hall of Fame for his 34 years of sustained
contributions in the automotive industry.
70s
Ray Fullerton (BSE ME '70, MSE '72) was featured in a recent article in the Ann Arbor News about a "trip of a
lifetime" that he took for most of 1997 when he sailed as one of 42 boats in the "Expo '98 Rally." His trip covered
14,000 miles from St. Lucia in the West Indies to South Africa, including the Panama Canal, Ecuador, Tahiti, Bora
Bora, Fiji, Australia, and Indonesia. Fullerton is a retired engineer for Ford Motor Co.

Jeff Foster (BSE ME '90) and his wife, Amy (BFA Graphic Design '90), recently built a new home in Commerce
Township, MI. Jeff has been an ABS component applications engineer at Bosch Braking Systems for four years.
"Amy and I attend all Michigan football home games and a few of the away games, and can be found tailgating at
the corner of Keech and Main on football Saturdays. Go Blue!"
Scott M. Partridge (BSE '96, MSE '98) was recently employed as a design engineer for Guidant in Minneapolis,
MN. He will be working on endocardial leads design. Partridge was MEAM's first peer counselor.
In Memoriam
Nicholas J. Radell (BSE ME '52) died December 24, 1998, in Evanston, IL. He was a Chicago management
consultant for more than 30 years with a specialty in the airline industry. He was a partner and member of the
board of directors of Cresap, McCormick and Page from 1961 to 1990. He retired in 1990 and then again in
1995, each time returning to consulting. His career took him all over the world, including New Zealand, Australia,
and Nigeria. He was a former president of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME). He is survived by his
wife, Jennifer, three children, two stepchildren, and five grandchildren.
