Student Notes

Congratulations to:
Anita Arora, who received the EDS Scholarship from the Society for Women Engineers (SWE) for academic excellence and co-curricular involvement. She and Nicholas Post also received 1998­99 Dow Chemical Scholarships, which recognize academic excellence and leadership.
Jeffrey Bischoff, who received the 1998­99 MEAM Graduate Student Distinguished Achievement Award in Mechanical Engineering for academic excellence.
Graduate student Bo Chen, who was one of three finalists for the ASME/DSCD Best Student Award at the ASME International Mechanical Engineering Congress and Exposition in Anaheim, CA, in November 1998.
Kurt DeGoede, who received a 1998­99 Rackham Pre-Doctoral Fellowship. He is working with Research Scientist James Ashton-Miller on his dissertation, "Using the Upper Extremities to Arrest Forward Falls: Biomechanical Analysis of Factors Affecting Impact Forces in Young and Old Humans."

Amy Denault, who received the SWE's S.C. Johnson Wax Scholarship, which recognizes academic excellence and co-curricular involvement.
MEAM doctoral students Yong Hoon Jang and Qingda Yang, who received 1998­99 Ivor K. McIvor Awards from MEAM for outstanding scholastic and research performance by graduate students in applied mechanics.
Stephanie LaCrosse, a graduate student in Automotive Engineering, who received the Marian Sarah Parker Prize from the CoE.
PhD student Tomas Larsson, who received the Harold and Vivian Shapiro Award from U-M's Horace H. Rackham School of Graduate Studies.
Undergraduate Yunn-Shinn Ong, who received the 1998- 99 MEAM Undergraduate Student Distinguished Achievement Award in Mechanical Engineering for academic excellence.
Kimberly Riggle, who received SWE's Pratt and Whitney Scholarship for academic achievement and co-curricular and community involvement.
Jaime Roehrig, (BSE ME '98) a graduate student in Mechanical Engineering, who received a CoE Distinguished Leadership Award for outstanding leadership and service to the CoE, U-M, and community. She is also the current peer counselor in the Academic Services Office (ASO).
Lara Sherefkin, who received a CoE Vulcan Award, which recognizes a freshman and/or sophomore in good standing and actively involved in co-curricular activities in the CoE and U-M community.
Suzanne Volkman, who received SWE's Outstanding Female Engineering Senior Award, which recognizes academic excellence.
John Whitehead, who received the 1999 J.A. Bursley Award, which recognizes an outstanding senior with excellent scholastic achievement and promising leadership skills. m
