Tricia Allam received the 1998–99 Jay Wetzel Quality Scholarship for
Excellence for outstanding scholastic achievement by an undergraduate interested
in automotive engineering.
John Barrientos, Kristy Downing,
and Ravi Smith received 1998–99 Amoco
Awards, which recognizes undergraduate students for academic achievement.
Joseph Clement and James Driscoll IV
received MEAM’s 1998–99 William Mirsky Memorial Awards for
outstanding research and academic achievement at the master’s level.
Graduate student Jianmin Gu received the 1998–99 Computational Dynamics
Fellowship Award for excellence in academic and research achievement. This is a
new U-M award sponsored by Mechanical Dynamics, Inc., of Ann Arbor.
A Student Leadership Council was created at the NSF Engineering Research Center
for Reconfigurable Machining Systems (ERC/RMS), reports PhD candidate Osman B.
Ozdoganlar, council president. The council represents more than 40 graduate
students and several undergraduates—about 75 percent are MEAM students.

Jaime Roehrig received the 1998–99 Robert Caddell Memorial Award for
Undergraduate Scholarship for academic excellence by an undergraduate. Paris von
Lockette and Materials Science and Engineering (MSE) student, Trevor Harding,
received Caddell Awards for Graduate Student Research Achievement. MSE Professor
William F. Hosford, Jr., received the Caddell Faculty Research Achievement
Award.
Qingda Yang received a Peebles Award for Graduate Student Research in Adhesion
Science from the Adhesion Society. He will present his research at the society’s
annual meeting in February.
