ME Sequential Graduate/Undergraduate Studies (SGUS) Program

The Opportunity

The master’s degree is now the leading technical level at which engineers practice their profession. The Sequential Graduate/ Undergraduate Program (SGUS) affords students the opportunity to begin graduate studies during their Senior year. By double counting credit hours between their undergraduate and graduate studies, and an option to transfer prescribed courses, students can earn their Master's degree over two terms. This Program is available only to students enrolled at the University of Michigan Ann Arbor campus in the College of Engineering.

Admission Process

By the end of their junior year, students will work with the Undergraduate Student Advisor to fill out the Intent to Enroll form for provisional admission into the graduate program of their choice. The purpose of the Intent Form is to outline a preliminary course of study enabling the student to make appropriate course selections while satisfying undergraduate requirements.

At the time of filing the Intent Form and application into the SGUS Program, students must have a minimum cumulative GPA that is prescribed by the SGUS program of their choice. They must be within 6 credits of completing their undergraduate degree to enroll in the MSE Program (Fall or Winter Terms only). They must submit a completed Graduate School Application, reference letters, a transcript, statement of purpose and an application fee. SGUS applicants are not required to take the Graduate Record Exam (GRE). Approval for enrollment in the program is required from the Graduate Program Chair.
