Haraldsdottir Receives SWE’s Highest Award

HaraldsdottirEach year, the Society of Women Engineers (SWE) chooses one exceptional individual to receive the Achievement Award. This honor is the highest award bestowed by SWE, and recipients are chosen based on their outstanding contribution over a significant period of time in a field of engineering.

Last October, Aslaug Haraldsdottir, Ph.D, was announced the recipient of the 2009 Achievement Award at SWE’s Annual Conference held in Long Beach, California. Haraldsdottir earned her Ph.D in mechanical engineering from the University of Michigan in 1987, and is a former student of ME Professor Galip Ulsoy.

Haraldsdottir is recognized for her accomplishments in air traffic management, communication, navigation and surveillance system design. For the past 15 years, she has worked for The Boeing Company, and currently serves as a Technical Fellow, leading Boeing’s Air Traffic Management (ATM) research and analysis group. Her work involves the improvement of ATM capacity, safety and efficiency, and the analysis of technology alternatives for airplane and ground system architectures. In addition to her position at Boeing, Haraldsdottir also serves as an affiliate assistant professor at the University of Washington and participates on M.S. and Ph.D. thesis committees.
