Mechanical Engineering Assistant Professor, Shanna Daly, has been awarded the National Science Foundations CAREER Program Award. Daly ‘s proposal, “Developing Divergent Thinking throughout Engineering Education and Practice,” was chosen for this prestigious award which supports the early-career faculty who have the potential to serve as academic role models in research and education.
Daly’s research focuses on front-end design processes, idea generation, design cognition, design ethnography, and design education. He research group is the Daly Design and Engineering Education Research Group that consists of five graduate researchers and two undergraduate researchers. Their work aims to change the way engineering conceptualizes, teaches, and shows value for skills that have been considered “additional,” but are vital skills for engineers to innovate for complex socio-technical challenges.
