Disability Visibility in Engineering Symposium
March 28 @ 9:00 am - 3:00 pm

Please join us on March 28th from 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM for the Third Annual Symposium on Disability Visibility in Engineering, hosted by the Mechanical Engineering Engenuity student and postdoc group, Department of Mechanical Engineering, and Division of Computer Science and Engineering. We would also be very grateful if you’d share widely with your networks—we would love to see many disciplines come together at this event.
This year’s symposium will take place at the Pierpont Commons East Room on North Campus and virtually on Zoom. CART services and a low-sensory room for in-person attendees to Zoom into the symposium will also be available. Light breakfast and lunch will be provided with vegetarian, vegan, Halal, and gluten-free options. Additional event, transportation, and accessibility information can be found at the registration link.
Our symposium features a keynote by Dr. Claire Davies, Associate Professor of Mechanical and Materials Engineering at Queens University. Since 1992, Claire Davies has been collaborating with persons with disabilities; as a therapeutic recreationist, a Special Olympics coach, a rehabilitation engineer, and a researcher. Her BDAT (Building and Designing Assistive Technologies) lab conducts interdisciplinary and participatory research into assistive technologies to develop therapies and devices that are usable and effective, ensuring equity and inclusion in design. She holds cross-appointments in Cultural Studies, Rehabilitation Sciences, and the Centre for Neuroscience at Queen’s University and is also the Queen’s University representative on the Canadian Accessibility Network.
