Alauddin Ahmed receives Research Faculty Recognition Award

Alauddin Ahmed, Assistant Research Scientist in Mechanical Engineering, has received a Research Faculty Recognition Award from the Office of the Vice President for Research. This award is presented to research assistant professors or assistant research scientists based on exceptional scholarly achievements, as evidenced by publications and other activities in an academic field of study.

Since joining the College of Engineering as an assistant research scientist in 2018, Ahmed has developed groundbreaking metal-organic frameworks for hydrogen and natural gas storage that set global benchmarks, and he has led the development of methods for interpretable machine learning. His expertise encompasses energy storage and management, carbon capture and management, materials discovery and design, and artificial intelligence.

In addition to his appointment in ME, Ahmed serves as the Principal Scientist of the Automotive Research Center (ARC), a U.S. Army Center of Excellence for Modeling and Simulation of Ground Vehicle Systems.

When asked how he felt about receiving this award, Ahmed said, “I am deeply honored and humbled to receive the Research Faculty Recognition Award from the Office of the Vice President for Research. This award fuels my unwavering commitment to ‘research to serve the world’ in line with the University of Michigan’s ethos and its deep commitment to ‘Climate Action, Sustainability & Environmental Justice’ as part of U-M’s Vision 2034. It motivates me to collaborate with world-class researchers at U-M to conduct transformative research in clean energy, carbon capture, and sustainability, creating a better world for future generations.”
