University of Michigan Professor of Mechanical Engineering Anna Stefanopoulou was named the 2024 Nyquist Lecturer by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers.

Stefanopoulou delivered a lecture titled “Battery State of Health Estimation from Manufacturing End of Life,” which examined the efforts to support a global need for on-board diagnostics and state of health estimation in batteries.
Each year, ASME invites a prominent lecturer to present a distinguished “Nyquist Lecture” at the annual Dynamic Systems and Control Conference. The lecture aims to present a message of broad interest to the Dynamic Systems and Control Division Community. The Nyquist Lecturer is selected by the Executive Committee Vice Chair after receiving suggestions from the DSCD members.
Stefanopoulou is the principal investigator of the Battery Control Group at U-M ME. She is also the Founding Chair of the ASME DSCD Energy Systems Technical Committee and a member of a U.S. National Research Council committee on the 2025 US Light Duty Vehicle Fuel Economy Standards.
