Arruda Elected Fellow of AAM

01/29/2010

arrudaME Professor Ellen Arruda has been elected a Fellow in the American Academy of Mechanics. She is recognized for her pioneering work and strong impact in the field of mechanics of amorphous and semi-crystalline polymers, elastomers and soft-tissues.

Arruda holds joint appointments in Biomedical Engineering and Macromolecular Science and Engineering, and she coordinates the Soft Tissue Mechanics Laboratory.

Arruda is internationally recognized for her work on the mechanics of polymeric materials including amorphous and semi-crystalline polymers, elastomers and soft tissue. She has pioneered methods to co-culture scaffold-free tissue constructs to engineer functional tissue interfaces. She has also served ASME and the professional community with distinction, including being an Associate Editor for the Journal of Applied Mechanics and for the Journal of Bio-Engineering.
