Professors Ellen Arruda, Michael Thouless, and ME undergraduate student Haolu Zhang were featured in a Local 4 WDIV Detroit news segment for their work towards designing a concussion-preventing football helmet. Specifically, they created a lightweight, multi-layered composite that includes a viscoelastic material. This material can be uniquely utilized to help limit the force and impulse of multiple and repeated impact events. ME PhD student Tanaz Rahimzadeh’s research is the basis for this design.
