Call for Abstracts: Fourth KAIST-UM Joint Workshop

Objectives

As an ongoing effort towards successful collaboration, the Fourth Joint Workshop is aimed to provide an opportunity to exchange research interests between Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) and the University of Michigan (UM) in the field of mechanical engineering. The two-day workshop will consist of technical presentations by the faculty members and the research scientists of KAIST and UM with its focus placed on emerging technology in mechanical engineering. Presentations will be made on the state-of-the-art and the future prospects of their common research areas between the two institutions, and the workshop will proceed in a single session. The workshop is sponsored by the International Collaboration Program between KAIST and UM, and also by the BK-21 Program of the Ministry of Education and Human Resources of Korea. Travel expenses for the authors of the papers will be fully supported by the programs.

Location and Time of the Workshop

The workshop will be held in San Francisco during July 14-15, to be convenient for the potential participants in both the InterPack’05 (The ASME/Pacific Rim Technical Conference and Exhibition in Integration and Packaging of MEMS, NEMS and Electronic Systems) and the 2005 ASME Heat Transfer Summer Conference in the following week, July 17 (Sunday) – 22 (Friday). The weather in San Francisco during that period is typically cozy. Details on the workshop venue is as follows:

– Conference rate (mention KAIST-UM Workshop): $209 (1 double), $239 (1 king or 2 double).

– A conference room in the hotel is reserved for the workshop.

Manuscript Preparation

Co-authored articles (at least one co-author from each institution) are solicited on the present status and the future prospects of the common research areas. The articles will be bound in a workshop volume, and, after the workshop, the authors are encouraged to submit their articles with some modifications, if needed, for publication in archival journals including the Journal of Mechanical Science and Technology, a journal of KSME published in English. The length of the paper should not exceed 10 pages based on the format that will be provided soon.

July 1, 2005: Submission of the full manuscript/ presentation file
July 14-15, 2005: Workshop
