David Dowling, professor of mechanical engineering, has been selected to receive the American Society of Mechanical Engineers Per Bruel Gold Medal for Noise and Acoustics. This is an annual award given in recognition of eminent achievement and extraordinary merit in the field of noise control and acoustics. The achievement must include useful applications of the principles of noise control and acoustics to the art and science of mechanical engineering.
Professor Dowling was selected, “for the pioneering development of novel and robust techniques for remote focusing of acoustic waves, and remote localization and characterization of sound sources in complicated, noisy and imperfectly known environments.”
Congratulations to Professor Dowling on this achievement and recognition.
