Justusson wins 1st place in Army Research Laboratories 2011 Summer Student Symposium

JustussonBrian Justusson, a 2nd year ME Ph.D. student under the mentorship of Professor Anthony Waas, won 1st place in the Army Research Laboratories 2011 Summer Student Symposium and was the recipient of the ARL Director’s Award for Excellence. The symposium was held on August 11, 2011 at the Aberdeen Proving Ground in Aberdeen, MD.

Justusson’s paper entitled “Microstructural Investigation and Evaluation of Mechanical Properties of Friction Stir Welded Joints” was supervised by Dr. Chian-Fong Yen and Dr. Constantine Fountzoulas of ARL. Justusson’s paper was selected from over 30 students across three ARL locations. He is a 2009 graduate of The University of Michigan and holds a masters degree from The University of Southern California in Los Angeles. He started working in the Composite Structures Laboratory at Michigan in 2009 and returned in 2011.
