Ashley Bucsek, Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering, has been awarded a Young Investigator Research Program award for her research, “Supercritical Phase Transformations for Multiferroic Materials.” Dr. Bucsek was one of just 58 engineers selected for this honor by the Air Force Office of Scientific Research.
The Air Force Office of Scientific Research, the basic research arm of the Air Force Research Laboratory, awarded approximately $25 million in grants to 58 scientists and engineers from 44 research institutions and businesses in 22 states under the fiscal year 2023 Young Investigator Research Program, or YIP. “Through the YIP, the Department of the Air Force fosters creative basic research in science and engineering, enhances early career development of outstanding young investigators and increases opportunities for the young investigators to engage in forwarding the DAF mission and related challenges in science and engineering,” said Ellen Robinson, YIP program manager.
Dr. Bucsek’s research interests include mechanical behavior of materials, micromechanical modeling, in situ/in operando characterization including X-ray imaging and diffraction, functional materials, lightweight structural metals, shape memory alloys, phase transformations, and energy conversion. Her work on multiferroic materials also earned her an NSF CAREER Award earlier this year.
Congratulations, Dr. Bucsek.
