ME Professor Saitou and ME PhD student Zhou win Innovative Design Component Award

ME Professor Kazu Saitou, along with ME PhD student Yuqing Zhou and UG Art and Design student Jeff Xu, won a $10K award in the Innovative Design Component category for the Lightweighting Technologies Enabling Comprehensive Automotive Redesign (LITECAR) Challenge.

The LITECAR Challenge, hosted by Local Motors, in partnership with the Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy (ARPA-E), launched on January 2nd, and voting concluded on March 20th, receiving over 250 entries. Participants were tasked with submitting a vehicle design concept and were judged on four main criteria: vehicle curb weight reduction, vehicle safety, innovation and supporting evidence.
