ME Professor Kazu Saitou has won the 2015 Kos Ishii-Toshiba Award, given by the American Society for Mechanical Engineers (ASME) Design for Manufacturing and the Life Cycle (DFMLC) committee. The award will be presented in August at ASME’s 2015 International Design Engineering Technical Conferences (IDETC) in Boston.

The award is given to recognize the sustained meritorious contributions to the research to support design, manufacturing and the life cycle management decisions in product development.

The award honors Kosuke “Kos” Ishii, a professor of mechanical engineering at Stanford University and director of the Manufacturing Modeling Laboratory there. Ishii was known for his dedication to teaching manufacturing design and his strong partnership with Toshiba, for which he and his father had worked. He passed away unexpectedly in 2009 at the age of 51.
