Seven ME Professors Earn College of Engineering Awards

Each academic year the College of Engineering sets out to recognize outstanding faculty for their work and dedication. They are nominated and supported by other colleagues. A total of 19 awards were given and below are the seven ME faculty members who were honored: 

Galip Ulsoy

Galip Ulsoy: Edward Law Emeritus Outstanding Service Award

This award recognizes an emeritus or emerita faculty member who has continued to provide valuable service, which may include teaching and research to the College of Engineering after retirement.

Amy Hortop

Amy Hortop: Jon R. and Beverly S. Holt Award for Excellence in Teaching  

This award recognizes faculty members who have demonstrated sustained excellence in curricular development, instruction, and guidance at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Including the development of new courses, teaching techniques, bring research into the classroom, contextual learning, and dedication to students. 

Xiaogan Liang

Xiaogan Liang: Monroe-Brown Foundation Education Excellence Award  

This award recognizes faculty members who have demonstrated sustained excellence in curricular development, instruction, and guidance at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Including the development of new courses, teaching techniques, bring research into the classroom, contextual learning, and dedication to students.

Massoud Kaviany

Massoud Kaviany: Monroe-Brown Foundation Research Excellence Award

Demonstrated sustained excellence in research and related scholarly activities.

Katsuo Kurbayashi

Katsuo Kurabayashi: Wise-Najafi Prize for Engineering Excellence in the Miniature World Award

Awarded for outstanding research and scholarship related to engineering at the meso-scale, micron-scale, nano-scale, and beyond. Consideration will be given to candidates who have shown exceptional creativity in the science and engineering of miniaturization.

Kon-Well Wang

Kon-Well Wang: Stephen S. Atwood Award

Extraordinary achievement in teaching, research, service, and other activities that have brought distinction to the College and University.

Tulga Ersal

Tulga Ersal: Kenneth M. Reese Outstanding Research Scientist Award

Awarded to Assistant Research Scientists, Associate Research Scientists, and Research Scientists, and Research Associate and Research Professors who have demonstrated sustained excellence in research and related scholarly activities.
