Sick Named Fellow of SAE International

Sick Professor Volker Sick ( https://me-web2.engin.umich.edu/zope/pubdir/bio?uniqname=vsick ), advisor of the University of Michigan SAE-Formula Car (FSAE) Team, was recently elected Fellow of SAE International.

According to the SAE web site, “SAE Fellowship status is the highest grade of membership bestowed by SAE International. It recognizes outstanding engineering and scientific accomplishments by an individual that have resulted in meaningful advances in automotive, aerospace, and commercial-vehicle technology.”

Sick, who also received the Faculty Advisor Award from SAE International, was previously named as Advisor of the Year in 2007 by the UM Division of Student Affairs for his activities with the FSAE Team. He received the 2007 College of Engineering Service Excellence Award.

Long active in international programs, Sick was recently appointed as Chair of the College’s International Programs Committee. He does research in development and application of laser techniques for combustion diagnostics, molecular spectroscopy, turbulence, internal engine combustion, comparisons with detailed modeling, and industrial applications.
