Professor Anna Stefanopoulou’s research team is collaborating with Robert Bosch LLC and Ricardo, Inc., on a new flex-fuel project being funded by the Department of Energy (DOE) as a part of eleven research and development projects to improve the efficiency of light-duty vehicle engines.
More details are available from the original Bosch press release.
“Together with Bosch we will develop the control intelligence for Flex Fuel Vehicles that are capable of running on any blend of ethanol from 0 to 85% with minimal or no penalty in usable vehicle range,” Stefanopoulou said. “The approach relies heavily on software-based adaptation and optimization striving for minimal modifications to the gasoline-optimized engine hardware system.”
