Two ME faculty members have been selected to receive the 2012 ONR Young Investigator Award:

Assistant Professor John Hart, University of Michigan, Ann Arbor
Proposal Title: Fundamental Mechanics of Assemblies and Joints of Continuous Long Carbon Nanotubes

Assistant Professor Eric Johnsen, University of Michigan, Ann Arbor
Proposal Title: Understanding and Predicting Cavitation Erosion using High-Fidelity Numerical Simulations

The Officer of Naval Research created the Young Investigator Award to identify and support academic scientists and engineers who are in their first or second full-time tenure-track or tenure-track-equivalent academic appointment and who show exceptional promise for doing creative research. The objectives of the program are to attract outstanding faculty members of Institutions of higher education to the Department of the Navy’s research program, to support their research, and to encourage their teaching and research careers.
