U-M ME welcomes two new faculty

The U-M ME Department is pleased to welcome our new faculty members Sita Syal and Hugo Villasanti.

Dr. Sita M. Syal, assistant professor of mechanical engineering

Sita Syal – Assistant Professor

Dr. Sita M. Syal is an Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering and directs EMBERlab at the University of Michigan. Her research focuses on studying human influence and embedding equity in sustainable energy and transportation systems.

A proud Wolverine alumna, Dr. Syal holds an M.Eng. in Energy Systems Engineering and B.S.E in Chemical Engineering from the University of Michigan. She holds a PhD. in Mechanical Engineering and M.S. in Product Design Engineering (“Design Impact”) from Stanford University and has served as a topsides process engineer and a rotational operations engineer on an offshore oil rig in the Gulf of Mexico for BP America.

Dr. Hugo Villasanti, assistant professor of mechanical engineering

Hugo Villasanti – Assistant Professor

Dr. Villasanti is an Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering. His research focuses on control theory and engineering strategies in social systems to empower people and improve their well-being.

Dr. Villasanti received his B.S. from the Engineering School of the National University of Asunción in San Lorenzo, Paraguay and his M.S. and Ph.D. from The Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio. Prior to joining U-M ME, he was a Postdoctoral Scholar at the Crane Center for Early Childhood Research and Policy in the College of Education and Human Ecology of The Ohio State University.
