Michael Thouless is adding another title to his distinguished record as on April 23, 2021 the Academic Council of the Technical University of Denmark will confer his degree of “doctor technices honoris causa.” This is the highest academic distinction within engineering and technological science in Denmark.
Thouless holds the titles of Arthur F. Thurnau Professor of Mechanical Engineering, professor of materials science and engineering, Janine Johnson Weins Professor, and the ME Associate Chair for Facilities and Planning.
In his research, Thouless focuses on micromechanics modeling of materials; interfacial fracture mechanics and adhesion; mechanical properties of thin films and coatings; toughening mechanisms in polymers; mechanical properties of structural adhesives.
