First year undergraduate engineering students who have not transferred from another college or university will enter the College of Engineering without declaring a specific engineering major.

Because students don’t typically declare a major until sophomore year, the Mechanical Engineering department is not involved in the admissions process. Undergraduate admissions are handled exclusively by the College of Engineering Office of Recruitment and Admissions and the U-M Office of Admissions.
