Heller Industries Fellowship Program

The Heller Industries ME Fellowship Program is an industrial partnership open to all eligible newly admitted ME MSE and SUGS students that will provide a paid summer internship at Heller Industries plus two semesters of full financial support via a Graduate Student Instructor (GSI) position.

Students with an interest in manufacturing, manufacturing technologies (e.g soldering processes), and materials are especially encouraged to apply. One award will be offered during the 2024-2025 academic year.

Program Details

Summer Internship

The internship with Heller Industries will begin in May or early June of 2024 and last 12-14 weeks. The selected student will play a role in the mechanical design and analysis of thermal process equipment for electronics and semiconductor manufacturing, as detailed in the position description.

This is an in-person internship. Initial training and assignment will be in Florham, NJ. The selected student may travel to either Shanghai, China or Suwon, South Korea for a portion of the internship. Heller Industries will cover the cost of travel and accommodations.

Fall and Winter GSI Position

In Fall 2024 and Winter 2025, the scholar will have a 50% GSI appointment in an ME design course. This appointment carries an average weekly work expectation of 20 hours a week. Compensation for this employment includes: 

  • 100% tuition waiver for Fall 2024 and Winter 2025 
  • Health and dental insurance from September 1, 2024 through August 31, 2025
  • A monthly stipend of at least $3,247.50 from September 2024 through April 2025

To Apply

Eligible students must:
  • Submit an application to either the ME MSE or SUGS program. Please note that careful consideration will be given to the free response in the “Activities Information” section on page 6 of the ME MSE/SUGS application.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident
  • Have experience with SolidWorks (or equivalent), 
  • Have an understanding of mechanical design including GD&T, structural, and thermal analysis,
  • Have developed an understanding of machining and fabrication as it relates to mechanical design, 
  • Be willing and able to travel, including internationally (China and/or South Korea),
  • Be willing to change your planned course schedule (if necessary) during the Fall and Winter in order to accommodate the GSI position,
  • Submit an application for the Heller Industries position using this form.

The ME department expects to make a decision on the selection of the Heller Industries Scholar by March 30, 2024.
 

Shape Corp Fellowship Program

The Shape Corp ME Fellowship Program is an industrial partnership open to all eligible newly admitted ME MSE and SUGS students that will provide a paid summer internship at Shape Corp plus two semesters of full financial support via a Graduate Student Instructor (GSI) position.

One award will be offered during the 2024-2025 academic year.

Program Details: 

Summer Internship

As an engineering fellow at Shape Corp., you will be engaged in redefining Shape’s product lines for the future.The automotive industry is undergoing a once-in-a generation change with electrification and autonomous driving. These changes are substantial and influence the entire vehicle, including the structure. The focus for the fellowship will be on an innovation project to support Shape’s future focused product portfolio for the vehicle body in white, something we call Shape 2.0

The internship with Shape Corp will begin in May or early June of 2024 and last 12-14 weeks. The selected student will play a role in designing mechatronic actuators for automotive drivelines, as detailed in the position description. Click here to view the position description.

    • A resume detailing your engineering background and co-curricular or relevant non-academic experience, if any.
    • A personal statement (no longer than one page) that details your interest in partnering and collaborating with Shape Corp.
