In the 2003 Edition of the Best Graduate School Rankings ( http://www.usnews.com/usnews/edu/grad/rankings/eng/brief/engsp10_brief.php ), published by US News and World Reports, the U-M graduate program in Mechanical Engineering was ranked #2 among 145 US graduate programs that provided all data to calculate rankings.
This is the highest ranking that the ME graduate program has ever received! The department is just behind MIT and ahead of Berkeley (#3), Stanford (#4) and Illinois (#5).
