Xiaogan Liang and Allen Liu have joined the Mechanical Engineering department as assistant professors and will both officially start in Winter 2012.

Xiaogan Liang earned his bachelor’s degree from Peking University and his master’s degrees from the Chinese Academy of Sciences and from Princeton University. After also receiving his PhD from Princeton in 2008, Liang conducted his postdoctoral training with the Molecular Foundry, a nanoscience research facility at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory.

Liang’s areas of expertise include graphene-based nanofabrication/nanoelectronics and nanostructuring of organic photovoltaic materials for energy devices and systems.

Allen Liu received his bachelor’s degree from the University of British Columbia. He went on to earn his PhD from the University of California—Berkeley in 2007. Liu conducted his postdoctoral research in the Department of Cell Biology at the Scripps Research Institute.

Some of Liu’s areas of expertise include cell/molecular biology, quantitative image analysis, site-specific enzyme labeling, and clathrin-mediated endocytosis.
