ME Doctoral student Erik Polsen has been awarded a 2009 National Defense Science and Engineering Graduate (NDSEG) Fellowship from the Department of Defense.
Polsen was selected for the three-year fellowship by the Air Force Research Laboratory/Air Force Office of Scientific Research (AFRL/AFOSR) for his research on continuous manufacturing of vertically aligned carbon nanotube (CNT) “forests” and their application towards structural composites and thermal interfaces. He is working in the Mechanosynthesis Group with Assistant Professor John Hart.
Prior to attending the University of Michigan, Polsen received BSME, BSEE (’03) and MSME (’05) degrees from Kettering University, and has worked in the field of Signature Management at the US Army Tank Automotive Research, Development and Engineering Center (TARDEC) since 2001.
