Neil Dasgupta, Associate Professor of Mechanical Engineering and Miller Faculty Scholar, has received a 2023 Rackham Distinguished Graduate Mentor Award. These awards honor Michigan faculty that have acted as outstanding mentors to their doctoral students, who support their students’ intellectual, creative, scholarly, and professional growth, and who foster a culture of intellectual engagement in which their students can thrive.

Professor Dasgupta is a renowned scholar of renewable energy and energy storage, batteries, solar energy, catalysis, nanomanufacturing, atomic layer deposition, bio-inspired materials, high-resolution microscopy and spectroscopy of nanomaterials, in situ/operando electrochemistry, and energy policy and economics.

“I am honored to receive the Rackham Distinguished Graduate Mentor Award. Among the many joys of the academic profession, by far, the most rewarding for me is the opportunity to interact with and serve as a mentor to the outstanding students and postdocs that I have met at UM,” said Professor Dasgupta. “I would like to thank all of those that I have had the honor to work with so far, and look forward to continuing to grow and learn together with the next generation of engineers and scientists.”

Professor Dasgupta was nominated for the 2023 Rackham Distinguished Graduate Mentor Awards by Michael Thouless, Janine Johnson Weins Professor of Engineering and Arthur F. Thurnau Professor of Mechanical Engineering.
