10/20/2010

AwtarME Assistant Professor Shorya Awtar has been selected for the 2011 Outstanding Young Manufacturing Engineer Award by the Society of Manufacturing Engineers. Since 1980, the Outstanding Young Manufacturing Engineer Award has recognized manufacturing engineers, age 35 or younger, who have made exceptional contributions and accomplishments in the manufacturing industry.

This award is in recognition of Awtar’s promising work on the design of high precision machine tools and manufacturing equipment. He is developing multi-axis nanopositioning systems that can have an important impact on nano-scale metrology and manufacturing. This award also recognizes, in part, Awtar’s innovations in the design and fabrication of dynamics seals, which improve efficiency and reduce emissions in power generation machines. Furthermore, Awtar’s contributions to Design & Manufacturing instruction and curriculum development in his department were also cited.
