ME Professor Jun Ni, the Shien-Ming Wu Collegiate Professor of Manufacturing, received the Best Paper Award at this year’s ASME International Manufacturing Science and Engineering Conference (MSEC). MSEC was held at Purdue University from October 4 to 7, 2009.
Ni’s paper, entitled “Modeling of Ceramic Microgrinding by Cohesive Zone Based Finite Element Method,” was co-authored by Jie Feng and Bongsuk Kim. It was selected out of more than 200 papers.
Ni serves as the deputy director of the NSF-Engineering Research Center for Reconfigurable Manufacturing Systems, director of the S.M. Wu Manufacturing Research Center, and co-director of the Multi-Campus National Science Foundation Center for Intelligent Maintenance Systems. His research interests include manufacturing process modeling, analysis and prediction; precision engineering and metrology; and cutting tool development, quality control methods, intelligent maintenance systems, monitoring and fault diagnosis.
